Statement from the CUDCP Board of Directors Regarding Texas Governor’s Order to Investigate Gender-Affirming Care as Child Abuse

The Board of the Council of University Directors of Clinical Psychology (CUDCP) condemns the recent non-binding opinions of the Texas Attorney General and Texas Governor that direct the state’s Department of Family and Protective Services to investigate gender-affirming healthcare for minors as “child abuse”.  These opinions are not grounded in scientific evidence and are antithetical to professional practice guidelines for psychological and medical providers.  CUDCP strongly supports the right of children and their families to make treatment decisions with healthcare providers without politically-motivated interference from state officials.
